
Sarah “Sam” Seevers is a long-time resident of Destin and a highly active citizen. Since 2002, she has served as a Destin City Council member and she currently is the Mayor of Destin. During her time on the city council, she has served as chair for the city’s Community Redevelopment Agencies, President of the Northwest Florida League of Cities, and an executive board member for the Florida League of Cities. Sam has been the recipient of “Destin Council Member of the Year” award, the “Ann Gibson Community Service Award,” “Destin Rotarian of the Year” award and Destin Area Chamber “Volunteer of the Year” award.
Sam completed the Institute of Elected Municipal Officials Training as well as the Advanced Elected Municipal Officials Training which is an intensive academic program offering a comprehensive overview of Florida municipal government. Shortly after, she implemented the “Sam Hayes Scholarship” program, Northwest Florida’s first scholarship program that allows elected officials from cities that cannot afford the tuition to attend the Institute of Municipal Officials Training.
In 2009, Sam was chosen to attend the 56th Annual National Security Forum through Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. Sam has served as Honorary Commander for the 68th Electronic Warfare Squadron on Eglin Air Force Base. An active community leader, she has served on boards for the Destin Chamber of Commerce, the Tourist Development Council, and the American Cancer Society. She has also served on several local boards such as, the board of the Destin History and Fishing Museum, the Destin Rotary Club, is a current member of the Destin Military Affairs Committee, and is currently a 7 year mentor through the Take Stock in Children program of Okaloosa County.
Sam began her career in the tourism industry, working in Resort Rental Management for 17 years. Sam is married to Rick Seevers and has two children, Michael and Devin. For the past 7 years, Sam and her husband have owned a publication company in Destin.
