The Honorable Jamie Watts
Mayor, Town of Welaka
Jamie Watts is the father of two children. Jamie is originally from Dalton, Ga moving to Florida in 1983 with his family.
He is a graduate of Saint Petersburg College class of 1999 with a degree in mortuary sciences. He holds a Funeral Directors license in Florida and Georgia and an Auctioneer and Real Estate Brokers license in Florida. He owns and operates Watts Funeral Home in San Mateo, Fl. and Cremation Service of Florida in Gainesville, Fl. He also owns Estate Services of Florida Auction & Real Estate, which assists families in liquidating real estate and personal property after a death.
Jamie’s family has a long-time commitment to public service. His father was both a County Commissioner and a Town Councilman. Jamie was elected to the Welaka Town Council in 2008 and served as a Town Councilman for over a decade. He was then elected as the 36th Mayor of the Town of Welaka in March of 2021. With Welaka’s strong-mayor form of government, Jamie acts as Town Manager, overseeing all aspects of the Town, including Governmental Activities, Utilities, including Police and Fire Protection.
Jamie is an avid outdoors person and enjoys hiking, biking, and mountain climbing. He recently completed a summit of Mt. Rainier in Washington State with his son Landrum to an altitude of 14,411 feet (about half the height of Mount Everest). He is also a family man believing his family and their support is essential to his work as a public servant and is the driving force in his commitment to working hard to improve the lives of the residents of his community.
Jamie is dedicated to forging relationships with Mayors across Florida as they work together to share ideas and information that improves the lives of the residents across the state. Jamie is actively involved with the Florida League of Cities, including the Northeast Florida League of Cities, where he attends their monthly meetings. He was recently appointed to the Land Use & Economic Development Committee for the League. Jamie is a member of the Lions Club of Welaka and is also Free Mason and Shriner.
