Mayor Kathy Washington is the proud and dedicated Interim Mayor of the Town of Welaka, Florida, where she has long been recognized as a committed public servant, community advocate, and woman of deep faith. A native of Welaka, she brings lifelong roots, a spirit of service, and strong family-centered values to her role.

A retired veteran, Mayor Washington’s leadership is shaped by discipline, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to public duty. She holds a master’s degree in Organizational Management, a credential that complements her hands-on approach to strengthening local government operations and community engagement.

Mayor Washington’s path into public office is also a story of family legacy and resilience. After the passing of her father, longtime Welaka councilman Willie Washington Jr., she was appointed to fill his Town Council seat—continuing his legacy of service to the Welaka community. Residents reaffirmed their trust by electing her to continue serving on the council in subsequent elections.

As Interim Mayor, she has championed initiatives focused on unified community engagement, improvements to parks and infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for all residents. Her leadership reflects her values: faith, family, and a heart for serving others. She is deeply committed to ensuring Welaka grows in a way that honors its history while embracing its potential.

She is also an active member of the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO), regularly participating in programs and events that support leadership development, municipal collaboration, and advocacy for Florida communities. Her engagement in FBC-LEO underscores her commitment to continuous learning and her strong connection to fellow municipal leaders across the state.
